U-CUT LAVENDER

open daily July 1st - August 14th

A Vashon Tradition

Lavender Hill Farm is the oldest lavender farm on Vashon.  The Christmans planted lavender a decade ago and opened the farm for U-Cut lavender with an honor system farm stand.  Under the name Lavenders On Vashon, Theo Christman also ran a gift shop with lavender products. We first visited the farm in 2004 during a fundraiser for the Vashon High girls’ soccer team.  We fell in love with the fields and wanted to continue the tradition of the farm stand.  We are open daily when the lavender is blooming - July 1st to August 14th, unless the fields are wet.  Bunches are still $5.00. The farm stand is self-serve and you are welcome to wander the fields.    For those new to lavender, instructions, shears, rubber bands and ribbon are provided.  Please enter through the lower gate at the corner of 238th St. and 104th Ave.

Most of the lower field is planted in Provence, Grosso and Silverleaf.  Silverleaf has a lovely fragrance when dried.  Provence makes wonderful sachets and is used in cooking.  Grosso is a rich purple color with a strong fragrance. There are 20 varieties of lavender among the 2000 lavender plants at Lavender Hill Farm.

Bordering the large field is Twickle Purple; the middle chevron bed contains Hidcote Giant and Twickle Purple.  You’ll spot some Otto Quast (Spanish lavender)  in some garden beds, pink and white lavenders by the playhouse and Royal Velvet under the hedge of Sally Holmes roses and along the path by the house.

Take a moment to enjoy the hydrangeas and roses, the charming secret garden behind the playhouse, and the view of Quartermaster Harbor and Mount Rainier.
